Rothk.0 beginnt dort, wo ein Bild von der Wand verschwindet. Nach dem Abnehmen eines Gemäldes bleiben Temperaturunterschiede auf der Wand zurück, die durch Thermografie sichtbar werden. Was erscheint, ist das Nachbild eines abwesenden Bildes. Die flüchtigen Wärmefelder erinnern an die Farbfeldmalerei Mark Rothkos, entstehen jedoch nicht durch Farbe, sondern aus Temperatur, Zeit und Differenz. So wird die Wand selbst zum Bildträger und die gespeicherte Wärme zur Spur einer vergangenen Anwesenheit – eine Form von Malerei ohne Farbe.
Rothk.0 begins where an image disappears from the wall. After a painting is removed, differences in temperature remain on the wall and are made visible through thermography. What appears is the afterimage of an absent image. The fleeting fields of heat recall Mark Rothko’s color field paintings, yet they are created not through color, but through temperature, time, and difference. The wall itself becomes the image carrier, and stored heat the trace of a past presence — a form of painting without color.
